Stylish Porto Cervo. See you in Sardinia!

Working away on an interesting project in Porto Cervo where I am trying to be creative but the planning limitations are becoming quite challenging and I must admit, for good reasons!
Porto Cervo is a stunning Italian seaside village located on the Costa Smeralda of beautiful Sardinia. Only 421 residents but during the summer months it becomes the ‘place to be’ or at least the-place-to-be-seen. Stunning sailing boats, yachts with helipads, gorgeous girls and stylish guys, jewellery, expensive drinks by the beach and lots of photographs and tweets!
Porto Cervo was created by Prince Karim Aga Khan and a group of wealthy investors who in the 1950-1960s, aided by the creative imputs of architects and landscape designers such as Jacques Couelle, Luigi Vietti and Michele Busiri Vici, generated such a stunning resort.
In a study released by the European luxury real estate brokerage Engel & Völkers, Romazzino Bay in Porto Cervo is the most expensive location in Europe. House prices reach up to €300K per square meter. In 2011 Costa Smeralda had the second, the 4th and the 6th most expensive hotels in the world, the Pitrizza, the Romazzino and the Cala di Volpe Hotel. In 2012 the Hotel Cala di Volpe, which is featured in the 1977 James Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me” is listed at number  7 on World's 15 most expensive hotel suites complied by CNN Go in 2012. The presidential suite of the hotel billed at US$32,736 per night. (Font: Wikipedia)
MCMM is currently involved in the re-design of a restaurant located right in the heart of Porto Cervo. A tremendous opportunity and surely a fun experience. The new exclusive restaurant will be open in Summer 2015. We are currently cooperating with the local authority in order to generate . the best result in is such a precious setting.
Mediterranean lines, turquoise and calming whites will differentiate the extraordinary spot where you can be seated outside admiring the yachts and the emerald green sea while tasting the most amazing food.

Am I see you there this Summer..?!?!

HEJ Coffee Academy is OPEN!

Not only Italian but also Scandinavian design!!!

From a scruffy depressing interiors we have created the very first HEJ Coffee Academy!
Located in a beautiful historic building in Bermondsey Square, London, this amazing new concept is bringing the best Swedish coffee for us all to taste!

HEJ is using Löfbergs Fairtrade coffee from Sweden and creates the most amazing cappuccino, latte and espresso!

The interiors have been designed by www.arcitetturamcmm.com located in Cambridgeshire. The overall idea was to recreate a Scandinavian log cabin feel by using timber not only on the floors but on the walls too. The feature wall displays wonderful light timber elements, a cozy fireplace and Eric, our quirky moose head coming all the way from America!

The table tops have been made by artist Adam Fairweather using recycled coffee beans. Scandinavian chairs and stools, mostly in white, black and red have been selected from Skandium catalogue.
Artwork and canvases will soon appear on HEJ white walls! Upcoming talented artists will display their works here! Stay tuned!!

The serving area reflects the overall Scandinavian concept. Clean lines, wood, linear details. The floor behind the serving area is red! Fantastic contrast with the light timber floor of the seating area!

The best and most intriguing space is actually in the basement. HEJ Coffee is not just an amazing coffee shop but it is most importantly an Academy. HEJ Baristas will be trained by their own coffee experts teaching all about coffee, methods and origins.

Fancy a cuppa! HEJ is your best Scandinavian spot in town!!

Your dream bedroom!

Light, spacious, relaxing, cozy.. That's what you really want for your bedroom!
But what about style..?!? How to get that luxurious atmosphere..?!?

Currently working on an apartment refurbishment in Essex UK and I'm sketching away options and ideas for my clients' master bedroom.

First of all a massive bed is what you really want and make sure you have at least four pillows if not more for extra comfort and luxury.
Choose light and clean pattern for your duvet and bedding. You want to be able to calm down and relax in your bedroom. White, ecru, light grey, cream and sandy tones..
Light is so important! Allow as much natural light in the room. Keep your curtains open and maybe add a voile for privacy..

A magnificent floor lamp next to a comfortable armchair by the window is the ideal spot for reading, pamper yourself or simply relaxing.
Cleverly positioned LED spotlights will give your bedroom a magical atmosphere. Choose a warm light and play with the dimmer to balance the perfect tone of light you want.

A simple floating shelf instead of the standard bedside table will add more room around your bed. Plus, bedside tables are generally full of clutter!
A sliding doors large wardrobe is the ideal solution. You can have a chest of drawers built in it, mirrors, hangers, hooks and baskets. You want to be able to move and store all your clothes and shoes quite easily just by pulling that sliding quite door..

Finally, make sure you use your bedroom not just for sleeping! Relax, have a tête-à-tête with your partner, play with your kids, do your nails, make-up.. Whatever gets you away from the daily stress!

Enjoy your bedroom!!

Italian bathroom design! Bellissimo!!

Friday!

Generally I tend to leave the "nice stuff" for this last day of the working week. I'm currently working on a large renovation project in Cambridge, UK. My clients, a fantastic Italian family, are particularly keen on incorporating a modern Italian bathroom within the project.

And here I am! I just can’t wait o start playing with gorgeous tiles, porcelain sanitary-ware and elegant taps!

Italian bathrooms are particularly different and extremely attractive.  Italians do like their shower! Funnily enough we are not bath people. We commonly have a bidet (97% of the households in Italy have one!) and our bathroom is generally quite large and luxurious.

Below some inspiring bathrooms from prestigious companies.

Getting creative with IKEA

Most designers and architects will hate me for saying it but I really like IKEA products. So clever! So original! So happy! So economical!

You can dare to buy a really bright yellow quirky chair, enjoy it for as long as you wish and then change it with something else, maybe a hot pink stool!
IKEA gives the chance to play with your interiors and decor and at the same time being extremely practical.
Life changes so quickly for everybody. People are moving a lot more and not always staying in the same house for many years. IKEA offers you the chance of having an interesting space without breaking the bank!

I personally have IKEA products in my home and I love them but what I like the most is trying and be creative with them..
Here are some suggestions for you to get on with a small DIY project!

All reference to relevant websites are listed below as usual.

Colorful textured 3D Italian tiles!

Ceramic, stone, metal, fired clay and even glass. Italian tiles can really surprise you!

Stunning design, colors and textures will enhance any bathroom, kitchen and floor. Tiles can range from simple square tiles to complex mosaics which form amazing patterns and design.
Versace, Armani, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli in conjunction with tile manufactures create a new concept of fashion for home design. Gorgeous!

Arabesques, leopard print, complex geometries create a gorgeous and luxurious atmosphere. Fascinating 3D printing techniques can nowadays generate the most amazing design and patterns.

So easy to fall in love with all of those beautiful concepts, the difficult task is choosing the right tile!

For those who are keen on design and love tiles, there is a an interesting competition organised by Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) where you can win $15,000 in prizes and 3 trips to Italy! The link is below. Good luck!
